Sangaree at the Berkeley County Council meeting

The meeting was a great success. At least 70 people from Sangaree came to show their support as Dan Williams and Suzette Joyce spoke in front of the council. A collection of vandalism photos was also provided to the council members.

Councilwomen Cathy Davis e-mailed me to say that we did a great job. “The speakers were well prepared with good information and presented themselves in a professional manner. And the turn out of residents was great.

WCBD 2 and WCSC 5 and The Post and Courier came to the County Council meeting and both TV stations aired the story at 11 pm that night.

I am very disappointed with the presentation made at the county council meeting. I believe that the speech was well written, but was too soft. I don’t believe that county council took us seriously and further that they do not realize the severity of the situation with the Sheriff’s Office and the problems that they have given the residents. Yes, they need more officers. However, they need to fix the problems with the ones that they have that treat the citizens like a low class piece of trash.

I like the idea of the video cameras. I, too, have considered buying an outdoor infrared camera from Wal-Mart or eBay along with a recorder or other device that will put it straight to one of our computers.

I was pleased with the presentation of the two speakers. I would agree with Mike that the officers need to treat the citizens, the people that they work for, more professionally. But the priority Monday night was to get the County Council to budget more money for uniformed police officers. They saw our numbers and know that we’re serious
